Combating Christmas Shopping Stress
Everybody approaches the Christmas season differently. Some live in fear of the whole shopping “experience” while others boldly go where no one has gone before: they do all their shopping over the summer. The following testimonials are from five New Jersey residents and outline how they each handled their own Christmas shopping challenges.
Anne Gadsden handles Christmas shopping the “new fashioned” way. She puts on a CD of classical music such as Pachelbel’s Canon in D, logs on to the internet, and starts surfing. The Newark mother of three says, “I’ve already done the store thing and now its time for me to get gifts for family members who don’t live in New Jersey. I visit Amazon and Buy.com; between the two companies I usually find something that I need. Besides, shipping is free if I spend at least $25 and that isn’t hard to do!”
Tasha Crimson shops early. Very early. “I shop all summer long starting when we go to the shore after July 4th all the way up to Labor Day. That’s when I’m done. I don’t have to put up with the hassles, I shop at my own speed, and I don’t have to freeze as I run from my car to the store!,” the East Orange grandmother of eight chuckled.
In Wanaque, Bob Caprioti has his own style of shopping. Or not. He simply has his wife pick up everything for her family, his family and for their three children. “She knows I hate to shop. Fortunately, Rita loves to shop; why not let her do what she wants to do and let me do what I want to do?” So, does Rita buy gifts for herself and mark them from Bob? “No, I won’t go that far. My mother loves to shop so I go out with her to the Willowbrook Mall and we find what I need for Rita. Mom knows what Rita likes and makes it as painless as possible for me.”
Angela Rodriguez of Fair Lawn laughs when asked about her shopping methods. “I don’t begin to shop until the day after Christmas. My family is from Peru and we celebrate the Feast of the Three Wise Men when we get together in early January. We’re scattered all over the place and it is too difficult to meet up on Christmas. So, instead of shopping ahead of time, I wait ’til after Christmas and get all the markdowns.” When asked what she does on Christmas Angela replied, “I’m single and work in New York. I hang out with friends and co-workers who are by themselves for the holidays. Then, on New Year’s Day I fly to Florida for a week to be with my family. I ship everything out ahead of time, so I’m not lugging all the stuff through the airport.”
Tamara Williams loves to shop, especially in crowds. The Hackensack resident replied, “I do a little bit in early December, but I really don’t get going until a few days before Christmas. The best prices can be found then and it just seems more like Christmas.” When asked how close to Christmas she shops Tamara answered, “I usually don’t finish up ’til Christmas Eve. One year, while I was working at Stern’s at the Bergen Mall I got off at 2 p.m. and began my shopping. When the store closed at 6 p.m. I made my final purchase and went home! I was working at the store and attending college full time. My finals were done only the day before, so my first opportunity to shop was on Christmas Eve. I start late, but not that late anymore!”

Is the Solar System a Bubble Supporting Life?
Recently in an online conversation about the solar system there was a comment, which came up in which the think tanker stated that he believe that our solar system was a bubble of some sort. Now on the surface this sounds like a rather far-fetched thought, but when considering his point perhaps we might learn something about the world in which we live, namely this solar system of our.
The think tanker stated: “I think each Solar System is its own “bubble” of self sufficiency, that is calculated to the very nanopoint of natural perfection. Ultimately fostering one race at a time.”
Of course as in any online topic of this nature others became interested and began to question this concept and another think tanker countered with the argument: “To what do you base such conclusion of fostering one race at a time? The bubble concept seems at play to a limited degree in the study of very small to very big, with regards to observable physics. Although how can one observation lead you to the second?
Additionally the original think tanker stated that the Voyager Probe, which has changed speeds as it left our solar system was an example of his hypothesis and this was also countered and discussed by another think tanker who said;
“Regarding the slowing or should I say the speeding up of the space probe, (think of the physics of TAS in aviation) that is interesting although should have been expected, why would one assume that there would not be a change? And relative to what? You state laws of physics, yet many of what we consider laws are theories and perhaps need additions to or some re-working within. In fact if things are of a different density, that is to say number of molecules in a cubic meter or changes in gravity distribution due to the spin factors or vortex created by this system moving thru space, then it all makes sense really. Baffled scientists, seems like a funny concept, although that is nothing new, recorded history predicts periods of bafflement amongst learned men.”
This brings us full circle to the next question I am going to ask you my reader. What do you think of the bubble concept of the solar system? Do you have thoughts on this or have you ever considered such things? If so what are your thoughts on this subject. If you have yet to consider this; then please think on this in 2006.

The Social Impact of Acne
How acne affects people’s lives
“There is no single disease which causes more psychic trauma, more maladjustment between parents and children, more general insecurity and feelings of inferiority and greater sums of psychic suffering than does acne vulgaris.” –Sulzberger & Zaldems, 1948
While known for quite some time, the psychosocial effects of acne have not been fully appreciated until recently. The reasons for this are many. After all, everyone gets acne to one degree or another. In most cases, it goes away on its own. While it’s running its course, it is not a serious threat to anyone’s overall physical health. In addition, until the last couple of decades, there was very little anyone could do to treat it.
Acne, nonetheless, has a significant impact on a person’s outlook on life. Recent studies have detected the following as common among people with acne:
* Social withdrawal
* Decreased self-esteem
* Reduced self-confidence
* Poor body image
* Embarrassment
* Feelings of depression
* Anger
* Preoccupation
* Frustration
* Higher rate of unemployment
The effects listed above are often interrelated, with one effect leading to another and another, only to make the first effect worse. These negative psychosocial effects can have a crippling impact, discouraging patients from pursuing life’s opportunities–socially, on the job, or at school.
Actual quotes from people with acne
The fact is, people with acne generally hate the way they look with acne. Let people with acne tell you-here are some testimonials about living with acne*:
Verbatim #1
“I don’t look in mirrors…. I am like a vampire–I shy away from mirrors. I comb my hair using my silhouette on the wall to show the outline of my head. I have not looked myself in the eyes in years, and is painful not to be able to do that, and that is a direct result of acne, the acne scarring.”
Like a vampire, hating mirrors! Unable to face himself, how can this person hope to face the world?
Verbatim #2
“I think that if I had more self-esteem about the way I looked, I think I would have been more outgoing. I would have gone to more parties. I probably would have been more outspoken in class and would not have felt so insecure about going up and speaking in front of a group of classmates.”
Here is an extrovert, turned in on himself (or herself) because of acne. Who knows how different things would have been if he didn’t have acne?
Verbatim #3
“It is really humiliating to feel like I have no control over my acne. I hold my head down and I am ashamed to look at: people, embarrassed. I am 25 years old and to be acting this way is very frustrating.”
In just three sentences, this person revealed humiliation, lack of control, shame, embarrassment and frustration. With the treatments available today, there is no reason to suffer like this.
Verbatim #4
“It’s associated with being dirty, and I hate that, because it’s not at all like that. I inherited it from my mother, and she’s always telling me that she had the exact same thing and that it will go away. I am mad that I inherited it from her. My dad makes me feel bad because he never had bad skin when he was younger, so he doesn’t understand…. I hate that the first thing people see when they look at me is bad skin. I really. really hate that.”
Myths about acne are a common source of family conflict. Teenagers tend to be rebellious anyway–do they need to have acne misinformation driving another wedge between them and their parents? One myth that makes this family situation worse: The notion that nothing can be done to clear serious acne sooner than if it were left alone.
Verbatim #5
“I feel like I don’t look right no matter how hard I try to dress up and look nice–there is always that area of pimples there, and it is very unsettling. There really hasn’t been a day gone by that I don’t think about it, or look at my face…. Should I spend that much energy on it? I could be doing other things…instead of wasting 5 to 10 minutes every day looking at my face in the mirror, or playing with it, picking at my acne.”
This person is so preoccupied with acne that he almost neurotically picks at it. He is also clearly frustrated, as acne thwarts all attempts at achieving a good appearance.
These testimonials show the extent of the psychological, emotional and social disturbances that acne can cause. Clearing up the acne would relieve the source of these disturbances, but many people don’t realize that something can be done.
Many myths about acne, especially regarding diet and hygiene, are still considered to be true. And many parents and older siblings are stuck in the attitude of past generations that nothing can really be done but wait it out.
Making matters worse, there is confusion among people with acne and their families about what works and what doesn’t. They are often frustrated by products that promise to clear skin but that don’t work for them.
Some nonprescription products may be more effective than others, but dermatologists have treatments that work just about 100% of the time. Most cases of acne can be cleared up with the right treatment.

How Your Small Business Can Survive An Economic Downturn
When economists agree a downturn is inevitable don’t immediately fire all your staff and prepare for the worst, after all your staff are your best asset. With some careful cost-measuring measures to maximise your company’s efficiency, you can alleviate the need to make widespread redundancies later.
Financial experts offered the following advice for those companies intent on surviving an economic downturn:
Improve Customer Service
Understand your customers and what is happening in their markets. Anticipate their needs. Which customers do you want to attract and retain? Tighten up your quality control systems to avoid costly mistakes and guarantee customer satisfaction.
Manage Cashflow
If your company is a small to medium sized enterprise, you should concentrate more on cashflow than profits. Many profitable businesses face difficulties because they simply run out of cash. Managing your cashflow enables your business to keep trading and that means reviewing all the areas where cash can become stuck or ‘lost’. You need to identify potential cash bottlenecks within your company; review your investment in fixed assets, raw materials and saleable stocks; reconsider an appropriate system of stock control, and re-examine your credit system.
Halt Expansion Plans
If necessary you should delay any expansion plans.
Be Stingy With Credit
Avoid the temptation to win over large customers with generous credit terms because if the large customer gets into difficulty, your company will suffer the knock-on effects.
Review Your Business Plan
Revise your business plan regularly and update your visions, objectives and goals. Make sure everyone in the company understands the business plan and the part they play in it.
Look At Your Business Forecasts
Draw up a realistic business forecast and work out the ‘break-even’ point. Once you’ve updated your cashflow forecast, work out what impact a drop in sales will have on the business. This will provide you with a clear indication of how your business will shape up if trading conditions get tougher.
Review Your Stock
Reduce your stock levels or have more frequent deliveries to keep stock levels low. Consider selling off old or obsolete stock lines. Prioritise your fast-moving profitable items.
Know Your Best Customers
In many cases, 80% of a company’s profits come from just 20% of customers. Identify who your most profitable customers are and focus your efforts on them. See if there any other areas in which you can diversify so that if you lose a large customer, it won’t have a huge impact on your company.
Consider Your Suppliers
Does your company mainly rely on one or two suppliers? What would happen if you had to find alternative suppliers? Can you negotiate discounts for prompt payments to them? Can you negotiate better terms so that you keep your cash for longer before having to pay bills?
Cost Control
In which areas of your business can you save money? Consider bank and insurance charges and ensure you are getting the very best deal available. Look at rent, rates, power and lighting charges. Review your future expenditure/capital/equipment purchases. What about productivity, the use of temporary workers, performance-related pay, leasing unused premises/factory/office space?
Cut Your Bank Charges
Decrease the number of times you pay in and withdraw cash and cheques as your company is charged for each transaction that appears on your statement. Avoid unauthorised overdrafts or exceeding overdraft limits, as the penalty charges will quickly mount up.
Forewarned Is Forearmed
Review what happened to your business in the last economic downturn and determine where the most vulnerable areas where. If your company wasn’t trading then, find out what happened to companies in your sector of business.
Resist The Urge To Discount
Keep your prices up by adding value to what you sell. Avoid the impulse to offer ever-increasing discounts to retain customers. Even in a high margin business, you will need to win substantially more volume to keep the same net profit if you give a small discount.
Keep Lean And Mean
Whatever the economic climate, the need to operate a lean and mean business is always a driving factor for competitiveness. Businesses should try to see a difficult economic and competitive environment as an opportunity to improve their performance so that they can compete with the best.
Stay Calm
Don’t panic! Stay focused and keep your objectives in mind. Don’t forget to ask for help before things get desperate. There are many organisations that can advise and help you to navigate the stormy seas. You only have to ask. Above all listen to people who understand what your business is going through and who have valuable expertise to contribute. Then commit yourself to success!

ADD – Causes and Diet
Parenting, good or bad does not cause Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) or Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD). A calm stable home may help ease some children, while a home with problems may lead to more frustration for a child with ADD/ADHD, but these are not the causes of ADD/ADHD.
Studies show that ADD and ADHD are linked to genetics. If a parent had ADD or ADHD the child has a seventy percent chance of also having it.
Studies show that children who exhibit ADD and ADHD qualities do not have the proper nutrients for brain functioning. Because the body is not receiving important nutrients, the brain can not perform properly. Many children with ADD or ADHD have lower levels of amino acids and zinc. Low levels of essential fatty acids (EFAs) also play a very important role in ADD/ADHD.
Another possible factor that may contribute to ADD and ADHD is food allergies. Take out highly allergenic foods and then watch your child’s behaviour then add the foods back in to the diet. Do this slowly – one food at a time every two weeks. You may notice a behavior change when adding a certain food back into the diet. This is how you can determine if a certain food or foods is causing ADD/ADHD symptoms. Common allergy foods that lead to ADD/ADHD symptoms are chocolate, wheat, corn, eggs, sugar and milk.
It is important to find the causes of ADD/ADHD. Many professionals prefer other avenues than going straight to drugs for help. If you can identify the main issue causing the ADD/ADHD then you can hopefully avoid the medications. Drugs will not cure ADD/ADHD. They may just help with the symptoms.
Diet
We stated above that Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs) are very important to brain functioning. There are low levels of EFAs in children with ADD/ADHD. The brain cells need fat (Omega 3s-n which are EFAs) to function properly. The only way to get this Omega 3 fat is through your diet or vitamins. Good sources of Omega 3 fatty acids are tuna, shrimp and salmon. Olive oil and walnut oil also provide the Omega 3 fats.
Amino acids are a source of food for the brain. They are a source of protein for the body and are essential for brain functioning. You may want to include meat, soy, eggs, fish and dairy into your child’s diet. If you are vegetarian, try brown rice and beans, nuts and seeds.
Along with the amino acids and EFAs, ‘B’ vitamins, zinc and phosphatidyl serine can be used to help with the symptoms of ADD/ADHD.
If your child exhibits ADD/ADHD symptoms, remember to eliminate high allergy foods adding them back in slowly to find the possible culprit. Also add in EFAs, amino acids, ‘B’ vitamins, zinc and phosphatidyl serine. These steps may be the winning combination to help you avoid medication.

Finding And Overcoming The Source Of Your Fears With The Help Of God
A sure way to overcoming your fears and anxieties is in finding the source of your fears and being able to manage it with the help of God. In dealing with any kinds of fears or anxieties, try to learn what is the real source of your fears and anxieties. Knowing what is causing your anxieties can go a long way in finding the solution.
A person should first ask God for some help and assistance. Prayer can be very effective in having God lead you in the right direction.
Next, a person can find the source of his or her own fears by doing some self evaluation and also by talking to a professional. Asking yourself questions such as: “Why am I afraid” or “What is causing my anxiety” will lead you in the right direction in finding the source of your fears. Give it some time and eventually you will find the answers your looking for.
Once you find the true source of your fears, the next step is to find the solutions that will solve your problem. With the help of a professional, write down a list of possible techniques and solutions that you think will manage your fear and anxieties. The next step is to apply the techniques that you uncovered. Here is a brief list of some techniques you can use to help deal with your fears.
A good way to manage your worry is to challenge your negative thinking with positive statements and realistic thinking. When encountering thoughts that make your fearful or anxious, challenge those thoughts by asking yourself questions that will maintain objectivity and common sense.
When facing a current or upcoming task that overwhelms you with a lot of anxiety, the first thing you can do is to break the task into a series of smaller steps. Completing these smaller tasks one at a time will make the stress more manageable and increases your chances of success.
Sometimes we encounter a scary situation that gets us all upset. When encountering these events, always remember to get all of the facts of the given situation. Gathering the facts can prevent us from relying on exaggerated and fearful assumptions. By focusing on the facts, a person can rely on what is reality and what is not.
Many people try to get rid of their anxieties and fears without taking into consideration why they are afraid. As a layman, I learned that the best way to get rid of your fears is to find those techniques that will manage the true source of your fears. If you can do this, then you should be able to overcome your fears and anxieties.

Where to Get a Bad Credit Cash Loan
Having bad credit can be a major burden, but it can be much moreso if you find yourself short on cash and needing a little bit more in order to make ends meet. Many people despair over their inability to get a bad credit cash loan, though with a little bit of diligence and a little bit of time a bad credit cash loan isn’t always that hard to come by.
By taking the time to compare different lenders, choosing the right collateral to secure the loan and guarantee its repayment, and maximizing the value of your collateral in relation to the amount that you seek to borrow, you should be able to find a bad credit cash loan to meet your needs no matter what those needs may be.
Determining your need
The first thing that you should do when looking for a bad credit cash loan is to figure out exactly how much you need to borrow. Determine both the minimum amount that you can make do with and the amount that you would prefer to have, keeping both in mind in case you need to adjust your request amount later. Once you’ve figured out around how much your bad credit cash loan should be for, it is then time for you to work on choosing the right collateral to guarantee repayment of the loan.
Guaranteeing the loan
In order to get the most out of your bad credit cash loan, you should use a high-value collateral that a lender could find an easily-accessible market for if necessary. One of the best types of collateral to use for bad credit loans is the equity that you have built up in a house, though failing that you could also use automobiles, real estate deeds, precious metals and jewelry, or certain collections. Once you’ve determined the collateral that you want to use, it’s then time to adjust your loan request so as to get the most out of the value of your collateral.
Maximizing collateral value
In order to maximize the value of the collateral you use to secure your bad credit cash loan, you should make minor adjustments to the asking price of the loan in order to make sure that your collateral is worth significantly more than what you’re wanting to borrow. This makes your loan application much more appealing since potential lenders will be able to clearly see that they’ll be able to make back their money no matter what in addition to the cost of taking possession and finding a buyer.
Searching for a loan
Once you’ve maximized the value of your collateral, it’s time to start looking for a lender that will lend you the money that you want. Take the time to request quotes from a variety of different lenders, especially those that operate online or who specialize in bad credit cash loans. Compare the quotes carefully, deciding which loan offer is the best one of all that you’ve received and submit your application from there.
Denial solutions
If you don’t receive the first bad credit cash loan that you apply for, don’t worry. You may choose to apply for some of the other loans that you’d received quotes for, or you might want to simply start your search over again.
Remember that there are loans out there for everyone, regardless of their credit history… it’s simply a matter of finding the right lender, and using the right collateral.
