A Whirlwind Tour of Rome

Even if you spend one week in Rome, you won’t be able to see it all. For travelers on the go, though, here is a lightning fast tour of Rome.

Morning – Grab a cappuccino and a croissant from a caf© in the Prati district, which is right by Vatican City. After your quick breakfast, get in line at the Vatican Museum. It opens at 8:45AM, but you’ll want to be in line by 8:00 to avoid the throngs of tourists that will soon be arriving. Start out by proceeding to the outdoor courtyard to admire the ancient statues of Laocoon and Apollo Belvedere. The statue of Laocoon, which is nearly 2000 years old, was hailed as one of the most amazing statues of its time. Next proceed through the stunning rooms painted by Raphael and finish up by being blown away by the Sistine Chapel and terrified by Michelangelo’s Last Judgment.

Afternoon – After exiting the museum, head east and pass by Castel Saint Angelo. This giant fortification was often used by Popes during times of war and a lot of fortifications were made by stripping away and melting down parts of the Pantheon. Cross the Tiber and head South East through Piazza Navona. Grab a quick lunch at Baffeto’s, which serves the best pizza in town, and then head further east until you hit the Pantheon. Veer east until you hit Via Del Corso, one of the most famous shopping streets in Rome. Battle the crowds as you head north on the street and soak in all the ridiculously expensive Italian name brands.

Night – Hop on a bus to the Trastevere neighborhood, one of the most colorful areas of Rome. Wander around the windy streets until you find a restaurant that is to your liking. There are many restaurants in this area, and the food is generally cheaper and better than any of the other places you’ll find in Rome. After a delicious dinner, snack on some gelato and hike up the nearby Gianicolo Hill to enjoy a stunning night-time view of the Eternal City.

The 9 Ways of Emigrating to Australia

Ever wondered how to go about emigrating to Australia and go about getting an Australian visa? Wondering what the various options were and how to go about the different schemes without too much red tape or expense? There are lots of ways to emigrate to australia from the UK. This article spells it out in 9 easy stages. Like everything else, applying to emigrate to australia need never be difficult if you plan your route in stages.

  1. There are many ways you can start off getting help to emigrate to Australia. The Australian economy has never been stronger and the Australian government are particularly looking out for skilled people with a specialisation in many business and trade areas. In order to emigrate you could go the route of an expensive lawyer, or you could get the advice of specilist Australian immigration consultants to see if you qualify for Australian immigration eligibility.

  2. If you are wondering about work skills needed to emigrate to Australia or qualifications needed to emigrate to Australia then it’s worth bearing in mind that there is a points system for applying for what is known as the Skilled Visa. You can fill in an online form to see if you satisfy the Australian immigration points system as set out by the Australian Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs (DIMIA). A positive assessment does not guarantee eligibility but it does satisfy the basic criteria.Other types of visa are also available. If you want to see how many points do you need to emigrate to australia then you can quickly seek the help of an online Australian immigration visa service.

  3. An Australia working visa. Managers, qualified professionals and skilled tradespeople are especially in demand under the Skilled Visa program. Schemes are available for skilled visas on a permanent or temporary basis, and are all based on points needed to emigrate to Australia as set out by the Australian Immigration Department. With the Australian job market advertising over 150,000 jobs each week and unemployment at its lowest in 10 years, being eligible for an Australia work visa has never been more possible. There is a huge demand in the plumbing, security, printing and the building trades in particular. However, despite the huge demand across the board there was a shortage of candidates for jobs in 2004.

  4. An Australia working holiday visa. These are exactly what they sound like. There are many people who dream of being able to emigrate to Western Australia or, more specifically, emigrate to Perth Australia for the amazing weather and facilities there. If you are between 18 and 30 and are looking to spend 12 months in Australia then you may qualify for one of the many Australian working holiday visas that are available every year. This visa only permits you to work in a temporary or casual vocation. You may not enter into employment with one employer for a period of longer than 3 months. Also known as an Australia travel visa.

  5. Family Visa. If you have an Australian partner, or members of your immediate family are permanently based in Australia then you may qualify for one of several family stream visas. Your application to emigrate to Australia can be done online. The Government of Australia encourages emigration in order to bring families together. Under the Family Visa Emigration Programme, migrants considering emigration must be sponsored by a close family member or fiancé(e) living in Australia. There are 4 schemes to choose from in order to find out if you are eligible for emigration. Select the one that best describes your situation. The sponsor must be either an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen, and would usually be 18 years of age or older.

  6. Visitors and tourists. All travellers, except New Zealand citizens, must obtain a visa or travel authority before they travel to Australia. But now there is no need to worry about visiting the Australian Embassy or High Commission to get your visa. You can now get your visa online. If you are planning to travel to Australia as a visitor or even on a business trip then you may need either a visa or an ETA (Electronic Travel Authority). An ETA will allow you to spend up to 3 months in Australia and you are free to travel anywhere you like.Find out whether you meet the criteria by taking a free online visa assessment. With the introduction of the ETA you are able to apply online; there is no need to even leave your desk or home.

  7. Business and investment visas. If you have had a successful business career either at a senior executive level or as an owner of your own business you may qualify for one of several visas under the Australian business visa program. Under the two-stage arrangements introduced on 1 March 2003, business migrants are granted a Business Skills (Provisional) visa for four years and, after establishing the requisite level of business presence required by the DIMIA or maintaining their minimum investment, are eligible to make an application for a Business Skills (Residence) visa. There are 4 schemes available under which a business applicant may emigrate to Australia. Choose the one that best describes you by taking a free online assessment.

  8. If you are an employee who is head-hunted or moved to your company’s Australia office then you can apply under the Australia sponsored work visa. Your employer can effectively sponsor you for this by becoming your Australia Immigration Sponsor. Under this system, if you are an established professional, you can emigrate to Australia without a degree.

  9. Retirement visas. If you wish to emigrate to Australia on retirement then you may be eligible for an Asyralia retirement visa given each year. If you are financially secure and would like to spend some of your retirement years in the warmer climates of Australia, find out if you qualify with our free online assessment. Under this system retired people may also choose to work part time if they so wish, so there is a degree of built-in flexibility.

There has never been a better time to emigrate to Australia or to apply for an Autralia Work Permit or Australia visa application. Review the above points and see which approach you are best suited to.

Agent Tricks of the Travel Trade

I’ll be forthright: I’m not a homemaker. I feel more at ease constantly on the move, city after city, mountaintop to seaside surf, living out of my suitcase and fumbling through a foreign language phrase book, than I feel even comfy and cozy, napping on my couch on a Sunday afternoon. Perhaps I’m a little crazy, but I find it thrilling sprinting to make a connecting flight (even if it’s the red eye); I believe it convenient when the airline informs me my luggage is a flight behind, leaving unencumbered to begin sightseeing immediately; and I think myself resourceful when I arrive at a booked hotel only to realize I forgot to make reservations but still haggle a room. Of course, while I don’t mind any of the perceived headaches of traveling, I do mind the high costs often associated with it. Traveling, for me, is primarily about escapingwhether it be work, commuting, obligations, sometimes even family and friendsbut how is it an escape if I’m worried about how much I’m spending the entire trip?

I mention cost as something that would potentially worry me were it not for the fact that, in reality, it doesn’t worry me at all. At least not since I wised up, did the requisite research and taught myself the agent tricks of the travel trade. Travel agents’ tricks that is, because in addition to being a constant traveler and writer, I am also a licensed travel agent. Not in the sense that I work for others, booking their hotels, finding their flights, or landing them a deal on an Alaskan cruise. Truth is, I only use my license for personal escapes (well, okay, occasionally for family and friends too, but only when their remarks regarding my debonair good lucks are particularly flattering).

If you’ve never heard of this travel industry loophole before, this may sound somewhat (or completely) preposterous. In fact, however, it is quite common among everyday people, both those who travel often or but once a year, both those whose work relates to travel to those whose work relates only to that which remains stationary. What I mean, plain and simple, is anyoneyou, me, your second cousin Otto, or my next-door neighbor Irenecan get their travel agent’s license lickety-split, and immediately begin reaping the benefits.

First things first: when making travel arrangements for themselves, every agent knows not to book a single step of their journey through one of their own, i.e. other travel agents. Instead, they use travel consolidators.

Think about the difference those terms: agent and consolidator.

An agent, in any industry where they’re principal players, obviously gets something in return for the services they provide. In sports, agents represent athletes, working off the field to win their clients lucrative contracts and commercial cameos so the athlete can in turn, without financial distractions, concentrate and win on the field. For these services, agents win themselves a percentage of every deal they broker. The same is true in showbiz, modeling, or corporations where headhunters wheel and deal multi-million dollar salaries and stock incentive plans for their CEO clients. Likewise, then, in the travel industry, agents receive discounts, courtesies and other special benefits, not from the customer for whom they book a hotel or flight, but from the vendor providing that service (i.e. the hotel chain or airline) who profits from the customer. As agents for airlines, etc., they drive customers toward vendors whom offer them the most in return.

A consolidator, on the other hand, does virtually the opposite. Rather than inflate the costs of travel by collecting fees, they combine, for the sake of efficiency, the expensive and unstable parts of travel into a cheaper, more solid whole. They work to maximize vendor’s numbers, ratios and the cost per head. Think about it in terms of magazine publishing: the real cost in printing an issue is not the number of copies made, but merely arranging and setting the plates that will allow the print run in the first place. Once that is set to go, the only added costs are that of extra paper and ink. The travel industry is the same, the more spaces that fill, the cheaper tickets or rooms become per person. As in any industry, consumers (i.e. travelers in this case) benefit from the sheer volume of numbers (i.e. all travelers, yourself included).

You, as a licensed travel agent would obtain special contact with these consolidators and the deals vendors must offer to maximize their costs per person. But while it’s all well and good to make arrangements through a consolidator as opposed to an agent, just because you acquire a license (available online in under an hour) doesn’t mean the consolidator will believe you’re as much a travel professional as they are. To avoid common mistakes that expose amateurs from pros, you must learn the proper lingo and travel codes. For that there are volumes of eBooks (with corresponding printed versions) that provide the requisite knowledge, which you can quickly study before contacting a consolidator and easily flip through if put on the spot. Get these references. Some of them are thick, but in reality you’ll spend less than a hundred dollars on everything you need to in turn potentially save thousands on the first trip you plan with your travel agent’s license in hand.

Furthermore, instead of turning to the discount fare finders like Orbitz, Expedia, Travelocity or Priceline that lay-travelers search, as a travel agent, you additionally gain access to the lesser known, but more lucrative sites travel consolidators utilize.

Together, the benefits will materialize almost immediately. Buy plane tickets the day before the flight’s scheduled to depart, but only pay what you would have had you purchased tickets two months in advance. Get a spacious cruise ship cabin beside the captain’s quarters for the price of an ocean-level closet. Find yourself lodging in the seaside, honeymoon suite for the price you might have paid for the basement hide-a-bed beside the ice machine.

Finally, the travel industry is a weird and wonderful creature, in this case, thankfully profit driven as much as other industries we often loathe. To those who present themselves as viable agents, promoting and thus earning money for the industry as a whole, it means endless perks. I get more special offers from airlines, cruise lines, and packaged tour companies than I know what to do with. For me, casinos, theme parks, and luxury resorts are not necessarily what I strive for, but if that is your cup of tea and your hocus pocus agenting appears legitimate, you’ll suddenly find yourself choosing between the best of many worlds: free weekends in the Napa Valley, first class seats to Tokyo, an all expense paid safari, a cruise down the Nile…

So what are you waiting for, get started! Find a comprehensive eBook or alternate guide that takes you through the process of becoming a travel agent, step-by-step. Don’t sit on this opportunity, but rather start traveling cheaply, today…

As for me, I’ve got a flight to catch…

Now, where did I put my passport?

Ski Vacations what to Pack

Start by knowing what is available at your destination. Is there a rental shop? How much are the rental fees for skis, boots, and poles. If it is reasonable, and you don’t mind skiing with rented equipment, this is a viable option – and it makes packing and traveling much easier.

If you don’t care for rented equipment, there is another option. Find out if there are any ski shops in the area. There usually are. Get prices on skis, poles, and boots, and then ask if they buy used equipment. If they don’t, ask if there is anyone near by that does purchase used equipment. Call that place to get an estimate on how much you could get for barely used ski equipment. Figure the difference in the money you will spend on the ski equipment, and the money you will get for the used equipment when you are finished with it. If it isn’t much more than what it would cost you to rent the equipment, go for it!

Ski suits, ski jackets, and sweaters can be very bulky, and hard to pack. These items will take up a lot of room in your suitcase, and leave less room for other clothing and essentials. If you are trying to pack for a two week ski vacation, it will be impossible to fit everything you need into one suitcase.

There is a way to solve this. Call the lodge or resort where you will be staying. Tell them that you need to ship a package, for yourself, to them, and that you need that package to be there when you arrive. Ask them if they will hold it for you at the desk. In most cases, they will. Next, get a box; put all of your ski suits, your ski jacket and any other bulky items in the box, and ship it to yourself, in care of the lodge or resort. Shipping can be overnight, two day, or three day depending on how far it must travel. Depending on how much the box weighs, you will usually pay less than fifty dollars to ship a package in the continental United States….which is a lot less than you would pay an airline for extra baggage!

Reflexology Schools

Training students in reflexology therapy, reflexology schools base their instruction and curriculum on an ancient art and science involving zones of the feet and hands. Reflexology schools teach students how to identify corresponding regions of these zones with relation to particular bodily systems; and how to accurately facilitate pressure points to relieve or reduce health problems.

Students who attend reflexology schools can expect to get training in how to reduce stress with specific finger, hand and thumb pressure techniques. In addition, reflexology students will learn more specifically, how real physiological improvements can be created through the precision application of reflexology.

While some states require massage licensing for reflexology school graduates, most do not; therefore, depending on individual schools and curriculums, licenses may or may not be required upon completion.

Some students may choose to earn a certificate in reflexology. Most reflexology schools that offer certificate programming may include curriculum and training regarding foot, hand and ear reflexology basics and techniques; theoretical approaches to reflexology; concept of meridians; proper alignment exercises; leg and foot anatomy; and many other relative educational programs.

Greece – Best Islands of the Eastern Aegean

Lesvos (Lesbos) is the largest island of the North-Eastern Aegean and is a very attractive and beautiful island with wonderful beaches, picturesque villages, friendly inhabitants, thermal springs and interesting architecture. Despite tourism, the inhabitants of the island of Lesvos have managed to keep their tradition and customs. It is famous for its excellent ouzo and for being the birthplace of the female poet Sappho.

The island of Lesvos is mentioned in various myths. It is supposed to own its name from the brother-in-law of Makaras, the son of Helios, personification of the sun. The island is also mentioned by Homer in the Iliad. According to another myth, the famous lyre-player and singer Orpheus, whose music was moving every living soul on earth, was killed by the Maenads (followers of the god of the vine called Menades in Greek) who got infuriated by the fact that Orpheus managed to move them. They dismembered his body and threw the pieces in the Evros River. The head and lyre of Orpheus were brought by the waves to Lesvos and washed ashore. In a sign of devotion, the inhabitants of the island put them in the Temple of Apollo.

Mytilene is the capital and main port of Lesvos and lies on the eastern coast of the island, opposite the shores of Turkey. It is built like an amphitheater on seven hills and is composed of various areas, old neighborhoods and picturesque suburbs. Mytilene is the artistic, commercial and industrial centre of the island with a population of about 25,000. It is a beautiful town full of superb mansions, colorful houses, squares, impressive churches and pleasant cafes. It has every thing to offer in terms of accommodations and entertainment.

To really experience the traditional Lesvos you need to get out to the villages. The village of Agiassos has about 3000 inhabitants and lies west of Mytilene. It is easily one of the most picturesque and beautiful villages of the island, nestled in the verdant slopes of Mount Olimbos. The inhabitants of the village are keeping their traditions and customs, preserving the local colours of Agiassos. The village is famous for its fine potteries and woodcarvings that can be bought from the popular art shops. The narrow alleys, the flowered balconies and the houses with impressive wooden “Turkish style” balconies form superb scenery. Accommodations are readily available at Agiassos.

A well-preserved Byzantine castle is overlooking Mithymna, proudly standing on the top of a hill. The official name of this village is Mithymna, which is its ancient name, but locals refer to it as Molivos. It is located on the northernmost part of Lesvos and is a traditional place, attracting thousands of visitors with its beauty. The village is full of houses built with heavy stones, with colored shutters. Narrow alleys are winding around the traditional houses, the public Turkish-style fountains and the superb mansions with their wonderful frescoed ceilings.

Ikaria is another unspoiled verdant island lying in the northeastern Aegean. Ikaria is named after the famous myth of Ikaros who drowned in the surrounding sea when he tried to fly as far as the gods and got burn by the sun. Beautiful Ikaria is still very traditional and has numerous beauties to offer to visitors such as waterfalls, streams, sandy and pebble beaches, dense forests and picturesque villages.

Lemnos lies between Samothraki to the west and the ancient site of Troy in Turkey to the east. Still unspoiled by high tourism, Lemnos is a very attractive and authentic island. It is a magical place with superb beaches, numerous archaeological sites and a wonderful, unspoiled landscape. The traditional atmosphere of the island makes it even more appealing. Flamingos can be found living in the lakes on the northern part.

The very attractive villages of the island of Lemnos are one of its main attractions and beauties. They have kept their local colors and atmosphere. Most of those villages and small towns are full of traditional houses and mansions with tiled or slated roofs and colored or whitewashed walls. Even the capital of the island, Myrina, is traditional and attractive. The architecture consists of neoclassical style buildings in narrow alleys and climbing steps. They have slates or tiles on their roofs and some have the Ottoman style wooden balconies.

The beaches are some of the most beautiful beaches of the Aegean Islands. They have incredibly clear and clean waters, varying from deep blue to azure and the majority are completely unspoiled by human hand.

Samos is the most visited island of the north-eastern Aegean Islands. It is a particularly green island which, despite the catastrophic fires which burned an important part of it, has kept a big part of its impressively green forests. Samos has busy resorts, crowded beaches, an intensive nightlife but secluded coves, picturesque villages and peaceful places can also be found. The areas of Vathy, Karlovassi, Kokkari and Pythagorio are the hot spots with modern and lively bars and nightclubs.

Thassos is an attractive island with beautiful sandy beaches and traditional villages with incredible mountain vistas. Thassos is an ideal island for those seeking peacefulness and a beautiful natural environment; but it also has busier places, more touristy beaches and like Samos, a quite intense nightlife. In a few words, the island of Thassos in Greece is perfect for everyone and has a lot to offer.

The small town of Limenas (also called Thassos) is the capital and main port. It is located on the northern coast of the island, on the site of the ancient city of Thassos and most of the population of the island lives there. The old port is very picturesque as is the ancient marketplace. Old churches like the one dedicated to Saint Nicholas are situated there as well as the monastery of Vatopediou which rises in the middle of the dock and is the symbol of Limenas.

Exercising Ahead of Mountaineering Betters Enjoyment and Helps Prevent Falls

Every year it’s the same account. Despite running to the office, and an episodic long walk, each snowboarding season starts on those torturing 1st few tours during which one is forgotten in the paths of younger and faster snowboarding pals.

If you are unfit when skiing it is unpleasant, and could be downright risky. Skiing down one requires some extra capability. A tired boarder is prone to suffer skiing injuries and weariness is likely to be a contributing ingredient to accidents, for example crashes and rock falls.

Surely there’s a safer manner in which to kickoff the ski season, and a recently issued 308 page guide by Catherine Sim, who previously wrote Ski Alps, looks to tender a resolution. Although aimed at climbers the info is for the most part relevant to ski touring, with its strenuous ascents in addition to different games.

Cycling, training for peak results is adequately detailed and a good read. It’s a fine all-round book which assembles a lot of detail. One may develop a specialised exercise program or tune your present programme. Afforded that it’s calculated for climbers, therefore a little of the techniques maybe unsuitable for ski touring, it is certainly a guide to buy if you would like to do any of the long day or multiple day routes.

Virginia Beach Bed And Breakfast

Virginia is a wonderful state, famous for its scenic beauty. Virginia Beach is located about nineteen miles from the Norfolk International Airport. Travelers are close to the beach, and two miles from the Wild Water Rapids Park. The area offers several admirable accommodations that provide a bed and a continental breakfast.

Virginia Beach bed and breakfast are well-known for their hospitality. The owners are extremely friendly and helpful. Most houses are placed near the beach, and the porches are a great place to sit and soak in the surroundings. During wet and cold weather, the owners lend out heavy-duty slickers and also offer ideas for entertainment. There are several good restaurants, which makes it difficult to decide upon the best.

Guests may enjoy several amenities, such as an indoor heated pool, spa tub, and fitness room and laundry facilities. Some hotels offer cable television, telephone service, newspapers, and access to the Internet. Many bed and breakfast inns have a free video library. Most of Virginia Beach’s bed and breakfasts provide a sumptuous, full breakfast on the house, complete with fresh fruit and juice. The main breakfast items are meat and muffins. A few also serve a dinner on request for special occasions.

Many bed and breakfasts stock soft and hard drinks, ingredients for making coffee and tea, snacks, fresh fruit, cookies, candies, and desserts. Normally, they are available in the dining room and occasionally in the guest suites. Innkeepers provide several helpful tips such as restaurant recommendations and theater reservations and the best locations for shopping.

Most innkeepers gladly provide assistance with the baggage but also expect the visitors to help themselves. The bed and breakfast services are provided at reasonable rates, and several amenities, like faxing two to three pages and car-parking outside the inn are free of charge. A stay at a Virginia Beach bed and breakfast is wonderful means of spending a holiday and a much more enjoyable experience than a stay at a hotel.

Virginia Bed And Breakfast provides detailed information on Virginia Bed And Breakfast, Virginia Beach Bed And Breakfast, Williamsburg Virginia Bed And Breakfast, Northern Virginia Bed And Breakfast and more. Virginia Bed And Breakfast is affiliated with Virginia Beach Real Estate.

Lanzarote Villas – How They Differ

Lanzarote is one of a number of islands which collectively make up the Canary Islands. There has been a lot of building development over recent years throughout the islands. So what makes Lanzarote stand out from the other islands?

There are 4 main Canary Islands – Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote. Lanzarote is the smallest, and certainly is different from the others. This is due to the influence of Cesar Manrique, a local artist, sculptor and architect, who was born on the island in 1919. Manrique felt that he had to transform the island before the increasing amount of tourists overwhelmed and disfigured it irreversibly. His influence can be seen all around the island in the form of sculptures, museums and tourist attractions, but perhaps most of all, in the building development.

Tenerife has been allowed to develop in much the same way as the Spanish Costas i.e. upwards! Most of the new development is apartment blocks concentrated in the southwest corner where the infrastructure is finding it hard to cope with the influx of tourists and residents. Detached villas tend to be large and expensive. Fuerteventura is going much the same way with major development proceeding in the north and down the east coast. This again is taking the form of apartment blocks and linked bungalows i.e. aiming at the cheaper end of the market. There are some more expensive villas around the new golf courses at Caleta de Fuste. Gran Canaria has a lot less residential property. Developments tend to be centered around purpose built resorts with hotels and apartments. There are very few private villas.

Building in Lanzarote, however, is very tightly controlled, and is still influenced by Manrique’s vision for the island. A lot of the new development is residential villas, many with private pools, and any new building has to conform to strict regulations – all buildings have to no more than 3 storeys high and whitewashed with either wood, green or blue windows and shutters. Walls are only allowed to be a certain height as well, and where possible, the natural volcanic rock of the island is used. “Green” areas are used to separate different developments. A “green” area is a strip of land which is filled with palms and other Canarian plants, the idea being to try to blend in the new buildings with the natural landscape. There is only one golf course on Lanzarote, whereas on Tenerife there are many. Golf courses are seen as not being part of the natural landscape, although another one is under construction near Tias.

Far from being “Lanzagrotty”,” Lanza is lovely”!

Bob Dickie lives in Lanzarote and runs Luxury Villas Lanzarote who offer a wide range of private luxury holiday villas across the island to suit every budget. Living there, he knows every area and villa very well and can offer extensive up to date information regarding all aspects of your holiday. You will benefit from booking direct with the villa owner at lower prices. Visit Lanzarote Villas.
