Essential Information about BoTox Injections

Sydney Botulinum injections (BoTox for short) is rapidly becoming the latest thing in Sydney society in fact it is fast becoming an integral part of grooming for individuals in Sydney.

Nevertheless I never fail to be startled by the stories surrounding this procedure.

I have listed below some of the more misunderstandings that we come across all the time at Star Cosmetic Medicine, where I practise as a doctor.

Myth Number 1: The muscles in my forehead could stiffen up!

There are around sixty muscles in the human face. Their continual use may cause wrinkles. If too much BoTox is used the facial muscles may occasionally become over relaxed. The dosage injected by virtually all physicians will result in you looking less tired, however your face will continue to be just as expressive.

Thus by using small amounts of the preparation in precisely the right spot you can get a reduction in the lines without any reduction in facial expression.

Myth Number 2: BoTox is a poisonous substance!
This to a small extent is true. Its scientific name is Botulinum Toxin Type A. Too large a quantity can end up in a decrease in muscle tone and even may cause sickness.

Pharmacists have an old phrase that states ‘everything is a poison – it all depends on the dose’. A large quantity of any medicine may result in illness. If you drink too much water it can kill you.

Myth Number 3: BoTox hurts!
In our clinic Star Cosmetic Medicine the physician utilises needles finer than a human hair. Several people liken the treatments to being bitten by a bug. Certainly not in the same ball park as compared to having a blood profile.

Myth Number 4: My face will be less sensitive!
Completely false. BoTox affects the junction between the nerve and the facial muscle, not the nerves of sensation. Just the ability to relax muscles is affected by BoTox.

Myth Number 5. Once you begin getting BoTox you must continue or else you may age quicker than before!
Again this is just wrong.

One treatment is effective for around 3 months. Any treatments after the first one should be effective for a little longer. The lines will slowly reappear as the muscle returns to normal. But they will certainly be no more pronounced than when you began.

Even should you never have BoTox shots ever again – any wrinkles should be smoother than if you had not undergone the treatment. Principally due to the fact that your facial muscles and skin have had a rest for a few months.
